Rebecca told me about this cat hair salon in Yonghe. It has three Scottish fold cats who are friendly to customers but not to each other. This beautiful cat was enjoying the sunshine and greeting customers.

I didn’t make an appointment ahead of time but was lucky that they had one open. Although I’d been planning to just get a trim, I ended up deciding to get a straight perm and they did a great job with that. That also meant I spent several hours there and could observe the cats more. The one in the doorway is a female and the best-tempered of them. The other two are males, and they despise each other.

The one on the left got up from his spot and the white one came and took it. He wanted vengeance, but the hairstylist foiled his plan by picking him up and asking me to hold him. He squirmed and glared, but he won’t hurt people, so he finally settled down on my lap and let me cuddle him.

I would recommend this place both for the quality of the haircuts and for the cats!

This cozy Taichung cat cafe specializes in different varieties of coffee and its beautiful Scottish Fold cat. They sell bags of fresh coffee as well as mugs featuring the cat.

The menu has a wide selection of coffees and teas at quite low prices. An Americano is just NT$40. I had their specialty blend which is NT$60. They also have more gourmet varieties for up to NT$280. They also have sandwiches and waffles.

The cats are in a separate room. There are two of them–the Scottish Fold who is very friendly and is even happy to be picked up, and a grumpy gray tabby which supposedly bites. Maybe he’s jealous that he isn’t the star of the cafe. He’s still a handsome cat.

DSCN3242The cafe has a cozy atmosphere and fast wifi, so it would be a nice place to study or work.

Address:

Hours: 13:00-22:00, closed Wednesdays

This is another cafe with only one cat, but it’s definitely worth visiting. Cappu 卡布 is an adorable blue-grey Scottish fold. When I got there, she was asleep under a chair.

This cafe smelled wonderfully of coffee beans because they also grind and sell bags of beans. They have a wide variety of coffees from around the world to choose from.  A cafe Americano hot or iced is just NT$100, and it doesn’t cost extra to add flavored syrup to it. Coffee with alcohol is NT$150, and I had one with Kahlua.

Eventually, Cappu came out from under the chair to eat.

While I was drinking my coffee, I noticed that the girl at the table next to mine had the same cat cafes book that I have. She said that she’d been to a lot of the cafes in the book too. She asked the owner to take a picture of us with the books. Here it is:

The owner also brought Cappu outside so we could take better pictures of her.

CIMG0999CIMG1001Like some other cat cafe cats, Cappu has her own business card, and this one is the best yet! At first, it looks like a normal business card, still very cute:卡布有自己的名片!

But, it folds open like this: 可是, 你可以打開這樣:

Then, you can turn it over and cut out these piece that look like this:

CIMG1005And fold them together to make this!

And don’t worry about losing the information on the business card by cutting it up. It’s also printed on the side of the cat!

Genki Cats (元氣貓主題餐廳)

Genki Cats Genki Cats

Address:

Hours: Tuesday-Friday 14:00-21:00, Saturday 12:00-21:00, Closed Mondays

Minimum per person purchase: NT$200 for entry and drink, NT$250 for shaved ice, NT$300 for ice with the most toppings

Since it’s just a few minutes walk from Cafe Dog and Cats (the original cat cafe and one of the nicest I’ve been to) and according to the book was just opened in 2010, I wasn’t optimistic that this place would still be open. The picture above is a very tiny corner of a sign for what looks like a typical tea and shaved ice shop. I looked in and didn’t see any cats.

But when I asked, they told me I had to buy a ticket. People who don’t want to see cats can order drinks and shaved ice to go or to have in the shop for regular prices. To see cats, ticket prices are as listed above. I got an NT$200 ticket with a green tea latte. They gave me the drink in a disposable cup, along with a ticket and told me to go across the street to #8 and ring the bell. I rang the bell and went up to the second floor of an old apartment building. In the entry way, the attendant asked me to take off my shoes and clean my hands with disinfectant, and then let me into the room with about 15 beautiful cats!

Everything was very clean and there is a separate room for litter boxes. The room is filled with benches and cat tree houses, and there are lockers for customers to use. The attendant said I might want to put my drink in there too so the cats wouldn’t play with it, but I didn’t mind.

The cat below was my favorite. Doesn’t he look regal?

He liked my cup.

It’s not exactly a cafe and definitely not a restaurant (called “cat themed restaurant” in Chinese), but it’s a great place to play with beautiful cats.
